General Admission Information
The Petersburg Home for Ladies accepts, for admission, older women who can function in either a residential or assisted living facility. Increased levels of assisted living care services are available at an additional fee. The Petersburg Home for Ladies is a private, non-profit organization and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid reimbursements.
Prospective residents must have a physical examination within a 30 day period prior to admission in order to ensure the Ladies Home can provide care appropriate to their needs. The Ladies Home is not licensed as a nursing home and cannot admit or keep residents who have medical conditions beyond its scope of care as described in 22 VAC 40-73-310.[Virginia Standards and Regulations for Assisted Living Facilities]

A residential and assisted living facility is a group living environment designed for those who require basic assistance with routine tasks. As a residential and assisted living facility, Petersburg Home for Ladies provides support with activities of daily living. Activities of daily living are tasks such as taking medication, getting dressed, preparing meals, cleaning, or transferring from a seated position to standing.
Memory Care is a secure group living environment designed for those who are limited in their ability to recognize danger. Petersburg Home for Ladies provides an extraordinary memory care experience in Magnolia Hall. Though Magnolia Hall is a secure unit, our residents enjoy total freedom within their living environment. Unique amenities and subtle architectural features aid to enhance the independence of our memory care residents.
Residents may have their own cars, and the Home will provide a parking space. The Home does not assume responsibility for a resident’s car. Automobiles should be locked at all time when they are not in use. A key fob is given to residents to gain access to the secure gate in the residents’ parking lot.
Though residents are responsible for the cost and management of their personal phone line, our maintenance team can provide advice concerning a phone line transfer. Your phone company can transfer your phone number to Petersburg Home for Ladies. Be sure to provide the phone company with a Room Number.
Petersburg Home for Ladies does not make accommodations for pets. While pets may not live in the Home, pet visitation is both acceptable and encouraged.
Petersburg Home for Ladies is a private residential and assisted living facility. Residents pay for their stay with us out of their personal finances, retirement income or long term care insurance policy.
Petersburg Home for Ladies carries comprehensive insurance on the building and the contents of the public spaces. This coverage does not extend to the contents of individual rooms. Your insurance agent can provide you with a renter’s insurance policy which generally contains protection against fire, theft, and personal liability. Be sure to specify that you want the policy to include damage caused by sprinkler systems.
All maintenance issue should be reported to the Front Desk. Non-emergency mechanical problems will be addressed during normal business hours. Maintenance Department business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm. Maintenance staff are on call for night and weekend emergencies.
Tips and gifts of appreciable value from residents to employees are not permitted. Employees are instructed not to accept such gratuities. Annually, residents have an opportunity to show their appreciation to employees through contribution to the Employee Christmas Fund. We suggest this approach as an alternative to individual gifts.
Petersburg Home for Ladies has around the clock care provided by licensed caregivers. Magnolia Hall provides memory car support at a ratio of one licensed caregiving staff to every four residents, 24 hours a day. In the assisted living portion of the facility we provided support at a ratio of one licensed caregiver to every seven residents. In addition to caregiving staff, our residents are support by housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, activities and administrative staff, creating a ratio of nearly one staff for every two residents!
