Imagine Yourself At Home With Us
Take a stroll through the Petersburg Home for Ladies’ common areas and enjoy a view of the gracious living we provide our residents throughout the day. What might you see? Before a breakfast of hot or cold cereal, waffles, baked apples, and bran muffins, residents who are early risers take their coffee in the dining room lounge or have it delivered directly to their rooms to drink at their leisure.
Later in the morning, it’s time for exercise class or a worship service held in the Rose Parlor. Down the hall, it’s 11:00 a.m. A group of residents gather in the sunroom overlooking the interior courtyard designed by noted landscape architect Charles Gillette. The ladies sip refreshments, nibble on cheese, and have a quiet chat about current events while reading the newspaper.
The sun is shining, and it’s warm outside. A resident walks with a friend in the Memorial Garden alongside a border of pansies and jonquils.
Other ladies may be sitting in our enclosed porch which overlooks the Memorial Garden. If the weather is good, they may spend time outdoors on the adjacent patio where they can enjoy the sun.
At one o’clock, seated at tables decorated with fresh flowers, the ladies discuss the day’s activities over a dinner of beef tenderloin, roasted asparagus, homemade rolls, and homemade blueberry cobbler.
Today, the afternoon’s entertainment may include a travelogue of faraway places or bingo in the recreation room. Look around. In the corner, several ladies arrange flowers or conduct a bake or jumble sale for charity.
Mid afternoon, a resident and her invited guests play bridge in the Blue Room. The afternoon comes to a close with a supper of quiche and salad. Before bedtime, a snack of fresh fruit, chips, and cookies is served.
What might you hear our residents say about what it’s like to live at the Petersburg Home for Ladies? “The loving care makes me glad I came here.” “I don’t know any place I could have gone where I would be any happier.” “I enjoy the meals.” “I like the Home’s size. The one on one care my mother gets at the Petersburg Home for Ladies is superb. She absolutely adores the staff that helps her daily, and she feels like she is right in her own home.
Being an only child, it was such a great comfort to me knowing my mother was at such a wonderful, caring place as the Petersburg Home for Ladies.
